While neighboring municipalities have shone their musical stars brightly, Brampton, Ontario has yet to bequeath us a band with mass appeal and originality in spades.
Enter Touch Me Airborne Plague. Formed in the basements, bedrooms, and venues across Southern Ontario, TMAP has created a sound that is in many respects an amalgamation of a twenty-something rock onslaught balanced by a thoughtful and almost delicate push into one's lost primal nature. Influenced by the likes of the Smashing Pumpkins, The Strokes, Bruce Springsteen, At The Drive In/Sparta and Desert Rock, their music is unlike anything you've probably ever heard on mainstream radio...beautifully skewed, grinding and ethereal.
Comprised of vocalist/guitarist/songwriter Kyle Dawe, bassist Chad MacKay, guitarist Adam Berry and drummer Brad West, TMAP delivered their first and only collection of songs to-date on a self-titled EP back in August 2006. The band gigged steadily in support of the release and quickly sold out of their initial pressing of 1000 copies. Clocking in at a brisk 20 minutes the EP showcased command, melody and technique while guided by Dawe's strong lyrical prowess.
In the years following this release TMAP expanded its repertoire of songs, elaborating on arrangements, and improving as individual musicians. Indeed, the group matured exponentially from their 2006 release, and should be demonstrated on primary songwriter/vocalist/guiatrist, Kyle Dawes forthcoming solo release, expected in 2012/2013.
The new songs will harnesses the spirit of eclecticism in compact bursts of rock that can be hard and punishing, but also maintaining a strong sense of melody. Articulate yet esoteric; epic without being overdrawn, succinct without simplicity. This is the essence of Kyle Dawe and Touch Me Airborne Plague.
